Busy Mom with Home Office Keeps an Eye on Kids

Problem:
Mother of two young children has a home-based business.  While she is running the business, her children are playing in the family room.  Most of the time she is able to check in on them or even work in the same room as the children. However, several times throughout the day she is in her office and on the phone with business asscoiates for 20 - 30 minutes at a time. During these phone calls it is difficult for her to check in on her children.

Ideally she would have a small, portable security camera that she could move from room to room with her children and have a monitor in her office that allows her to observe her children while she is on the phone for prolonged periods of time.  The cameras must be able to work in the dark so the children can be observed during nap times.

Solution:

There are a number of video baby monitors available that would satisfy this busy mom's problem. We recommend the SVAT GX5201 - Wireless Portable Video Baby Monitor with Night Vision Security Camera.  You will find many of the video baby monitors available today are wireless and battery operated, so they are totally portable. The security cameras have night vision and include LCD high resolution monitors for crystal clear observing.

Total Cost:

The price for the SVAT GX5201 is $144.99 plus shipping.

Monitor Dairy Cows in Barn at Night

Problem
Livestock farmer in northern Minnesota has pregnant cows he needs to monitor around the clock. The barn is about 500 feet from the house. It is very troublesome to wake up every hour and run out to the barn in the middle of the night, especially in the extreme frigid conditions of Minnesota winters.
Also, the barn is pitch dark at night.  The barn and home are wood frame and siding.  There is power readily available in the barn and home.

This is a seasonal problem, so the farmer does not want to invest in a permanent wired solution. Most wireless kits available have about 300 foot unobstructed signal transmission range.

Solution
We recommended a wireless transmitter / receiver booster and a wired night vision security camera with strong IR capabilities.

Since the barn and home are wood construction and the equipment on both ends would be stored indoors a wireless transmitter and receiver booster is a perfect solution for this problem.  There are many wireless singal booster available. For this case we used the Astrotel MiniVideo Sender VC-2-M.

We want to make sure there is enough light generated from the IR night vision security camera to render a clear picture in the total darkness of the barn at night.  The farmer used the PC-1315S Precision Night Vision Color Camera.   This security camera has 48 LEDS, which will provide plenty of light in the barn at night for this purpose.

Installation Notes:
The wired camera connects to the transmitter.  The transmitter send the signal to the receiver that is in the home 500 foot away.  The farmer set up a TV next to the receiver in the house.

The total cost of this solution was about $220.00.   The farmer is very happy he does not have to go outside at night in the freezing cold.
